Vibration and noise damping

Rubber is a widely used vibration and noise damping material. It is naturally elastic with good damping properties, which can be controlled by adjusting the composition of rubber compounds.
Typical applications for rubber damping include bridges, insulating buildings from vibrating surroundings and machinery from its base, insulating engines from the frame of a vehicle or machine, insulating rails from railway sleepers, damping pipework vibration, etc. Noise levels can also be reduced by means of soundproofing panelling and the rubber lining of objects subjected to heavy impact, such as timber debarking drums.
